Electrical Engineering – Vehicle Systems Integration

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is interested in placing an engineer in the Electrical Engineering group responsible for integrating major electrical system componentry. A key task of this position is to design wiring harnesses meeting the rigors of off-highway vehicle use cases under the pressures of commercial pricing structures and component utilization. This position is full time and will be working in our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the Director of Electrical Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with team of designers to design wiring harnesses that physically connect both in-house developed and off-the-shelf devices.
  • Create and maintain electrical system architecture schematics.
  • Engage in relationships across Zero Motorcycles to successfully track and assist in product development deliverables with current suppliers and open doors of new suppliers offering step-function value growth to the company.
Required Education/Experience:
  • Combination of:
    • Bachelor’s in related Engineering field, i.e. Electrical, Aerospace, Mechatronics
    • 5 yrs Transportation Industry experience including product development, release to production, and retrofit support
  • Electric Power conversion techniques.
  • EV/HEV architecture knowledge and bias due to critical thinking and experimentation.
Skills and Attributes:
  • Hands-on wiring harness assembly knowledge and technique including in-line termination styles, branch layup, connector component terminology, fixing elements, materials selection, SI methods, conductor and fuse sizing, and life expectancy protection.
  • Working knowledge of software-based wiring harness design tools and corresponding output design specification package contents.
  • 3D MCAD navigation, SolidWorks preferred.
  • Design and lifecycle process tool awareness, utilization, and track record of engagement in improvement activities.
  • Perform detailed design peer reviews including assist in program content shaping as vehicle developments change scope in the product development lifecycle.
  • Create Documentation of Value including wiring harness build-to-print designs, Test Procedures, Intended Installation Instructions, Development reports, Summaries of Tradeshow Attendance, Knowledgebase articles and distilled Industry Standard guidelines.

Director of Supplier Management and New Product Introduction

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently looking for a Director of Supplier Management and New Product Introduction (NPI). The Director of Supplier Management and NPI leads Zero Motorcycle’s supplier management and developmental sourcing strategy through the identification, selection and development of reliable, high quality, low cost suppliers of motorcycle parts and systems. This position collaborates with Product Development & Engineering leadership to drive the Procurement Organization through new model projects from Concept to Production, and it is responsible for the creation, adherence to and reporting of associated project tooling and material cost targets. In addition, the Director of Supplier Management and NPI will develop supplier-by-supplier negotiating strategies that deliver aggressive cost reductions as part of our annual operating plans and have responsibility for ongoing supplier management cradle-to-grave by performing supplier business reviews, goal setting and development plans in conjunction with supplier quality to ensure that our supply base is capable of meeting Zero Motorcycles needs. This position is full time and will be working in our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the VP of Operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Grow strategic supplier relationships, driving up efficiencies through the entire supply chain.
  • Hold regular supplier business reviews and implement/maintain supplier scorecards.
  • Ensure that all strategic suppliers have contractual agreements in place that protect Zero Motorcycles in the case of manufacturing defects or quality problems.
  • Manage and develop suppliers from initial qualification through production until end-of-life taking into account the post-production customer service and warranty needs.
  • Develop assurance of supply and lowest total cost of ownership strategies.
  • Develop a strategic supplier and supplier management roadmap taking into account the forecasted business plan and product roadmap.
  • Collaboratively support the Engineering and Quality organizations to identify new and alternative suppliers to support the development of new products and platforms on our roadmap.
  • Through extensive manufacturing process and supplier management experience, lead the identification, selection and qualification of the best supplier for each new component in development, based primarily on reliability, quality and cost competitiveness in collaboration with Quality and Engineering.
  • Create and maintain project specific tooling and material targets while tracking actual costs for each component, rolling up to system and vehicle level values. Report regularly on BOM cost progress along each phase of development.
  • Provide input to product development leadership for creating design release schedules for new model projects based on realistic supplier lead times.
  • Work closely with design engineering to ensure that supplier capabilities and manufacturing processes are considered to optimize total cost of ownership (Design for manufacturing).
  • Create and maintain Department Budget, including developmental tooling budget
  • Lead the Request For Quote (RFQ) process, ensuring adherence to overall cost targets.
  • Negotiate agreements that minimize risk exposure and provide optimal terms and conditions taking into account lead time, warranty and payment terms.
  • Lead pre-production build logistics from a procurement standpoint, including issuing all tooling and pre-production material PO’s.
  • Collaborate with Quality in co-leading supplier process/systems and component qualification, in order to ensure smooth path through developmental phases into production.
  • Lead transition from NPI to Production Purchasing, including working with Master Data Management and Planning to transition Engineering BOM’s into Production.
  • Promptly and effectively react to any supply chain concerns or opportunities.
  • Monitor the global supply chain and identify opportunities resulting from new product offerings or market/technology shifts.
  • Travel required up to 30%, including international.
Required Education/Experience:
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years supply chain management experience with previous negotiation and purchasing responsibility preferably in a global environment.
  • Automotive industry or Motorcycle industry experience is strongly desired.
  • Experience with a variety of manufacturing processes, from a procurement position, including fabrications, castings, forgings, stampings, injection molding, PCB’s, wiring harnesses, etc., as well as experience with the procurement of high-level systems, such as suspension, brakes, etc.
  • Experience preparing and presenting cost progress and supply chain assessment reports.
  • Experience leading projects and staff.
  • Experience in the creation and maintenance of budgets.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • In tune with various cultural nuances, in order to most effectively communicate and grow global supply chain relationships.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for a significant portion of the calendar year. Foreign language skills a plus.

Styled Surface Designer

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently seeking a Styled Surface Designer. The primary function of the Styled Surface Designer is to own the implementation, refinement and delivery of Class-A CAD files for ID-Driven content. Secondarily, the Styled Surface Designer will provide general design support to the Industrial Design department. This position is full time and will be working in our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the Director of Industrial Design.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serves as the primary translator of sketches and reference files into Class-A surface CAD for design visualization and industrialization.
  • Collaborates with the Design Engineers to ensure that ID deliverables satisfy all project requirements including, but not limited to: industrial process requirements, neighboring system clearances, fastening features, and FEA/CFD analysis.
  • Provides general support to the Industrial Design department as needed, including research, documentation, visualization, and ideation.
  • Supports the Director of Industrial Design in a perpetual quest for improvement of the product and the quality of deliverables.
  • Maintains ID departmental CAD competence and efficiency by keeping current on tools and skill.
Required Education/Experience:
  • B.S. in Industrial Design or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of consumer product design experience
  • 3+ years of styled surface development
  • Strong Alias experience
  • Familiarity with a parametric CAD system
  • Mechanical interest/aptitude
Skills and Attributes:

Engineering – Electrical Systems Engineer

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently seeking an Electrical Systems Engineer. This individual will have a good understanding of electrical systems design and how it affects electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) in both immunity and emissions. This individual will work within a team of electrical engineers to design cutting edge electric motorcycles and all the systems that make these vehicles perform safely, predictably, and excitingly. This individual will play a key role in helping to define the motorcycles systems, insuring the motorcycles pass EMC testing, production test systems are in place for PCBA functional testing, and contribute to overall product design. This position is full time and will be working in our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the Director of Electrical Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with the team to define high level system architecture with a focus on its effects on EMC.
  • Champion testing product to EMC specifications both in house on our own test setups as well as at the lab and during witness testing. This will involve coordinating with the engineering team, test laboratory, homologation team, and certification agencies.
  • Conduct peer reviews of designs, features, and marketing/engineering specifications.
  • Perform circuit design, schematic entry, and oversee board layout for functional test stations used in production.
  • Write embedded firmware functional for test stations used in production.
  • Write test plans, execute them, and document results.
  • Assist with building a test infrastructure to get full test coverage of all features.
Required Education/Experience:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 2-4 Years of professional engineering experience in related field
  • Experience testing EMC, the equipment used and working with laboratories
  • Experience with embedded systems hardware and software
  • Experience with analog and digital circuit design, power electronics is a plus
  • Experience and understanding of antenna design a plus

Director - Information Technology

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently recruiting for a Director of Information Technology. The Director of Information Technology oversees the solution portfolio of all corporate information systems and the staff responsible for supporting, enhancing and developing them. The director facilitates the prioritization of requests from internal stakeholders. He/she rationalizes these requests against available information technology resources and budgets to determine the best means of automating business processes and delivering the needed solutions. The director leads a team that includes an IT Project Manager, IT Systems Programmers and third party service providers. He/she establishes an annual IT budget, manages IT expenditures and delivers new functionality on schedule.

A key priority will be the improvement of internal mission critical systems to improve their integration and performance. These priorities will include an upgrade of the existing Intuitive ERP System and the identification and resolution of system limitations. This position is full time and will be working at our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the Chief Financial Officer.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Recommends information technology strategies, policies, and procedures by identifying problems, evaluating trends and anticipating requirements.
  • Solicits IT needs of different functional groups. Sets cross group priorities and assigns the resources needed to accomplish them - chairs regular meetings of Zero’s IT Steering Committee.
  • Assures all projects are initiated with appropriate requirements documents and necessary project plans. Monitors scope and requirements throughout the project to ensure delivery within determined budget and timeframes. Identifies and mitigates or resolves project risks and issues.
  • Serves as the functional group’s primary interface with third party service providers. Negotiates contracts and manages performance to these contracts.
  • Sets, tracks and adheres to IT operating and capital project budgets.
  • Champions the use and continual improvement of corporate methodologies and processes.
Required Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Information Systems, Systems Engineering, Computer Science or related)
  • Minimum 10 years IT experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role
  • Experience with the management of one or all of the following systems is desired:
    • Intuitive ERP, powered by Aptean;
    • Oracle’s Agile Product Lifecycle Management;
    • Salesforce.com; SFDC admin experience a plus
  • Experience with the information technology needs of multinational, manufacturing companies

This position will work with motor controller partner to build the next generation controller for Zero Motorcycles. Optimize powertrain performance with the Zero Motorcycles engineering team, supporting the team with integration of the motor controller, and overall system architecture where required. This position is full time and will be working at our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the Director of Powertrain Engineering.

  • Manage requirements and specifications between Zero Motorcycles and our motor controller partner.
  • Visit suppliers for collaborative development.
  • Performance tuning of powertrain.
Required Education/Experience:
  • B.S in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
