Styled Surface Designer

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently seeking a Styled Surface Designer. The primary function of the Styled Surface Designer is to own the implementation, refinement and delivery of Class-A CAD files for ID-Driven content. Secondarily, the Styled Surface Designer will provide general design support to the Industrial Design department. This position is full time and will be working in our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the Director of Industrial Design.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serves as the primary translator of sketches and reference files into Class-A surface CAD for design visualization and industrialization.
  • Collaborates with the Design Engineers to ensure that ID deliverables satisfy all project requirements including, but not limited to: industrial process requirements, neighboring system clearances, fastening features, and FEA/CFD analysis.
  • Provides general support to the Industrial Design department as needed, including research, documentation, visualization, and ideation.
  • Supports the Director of Industrial Design in a perpetual quest for improvement of the product and the quality of deliverables.
  • Maintains ID departmental CAD competence and efficiency by keeping current on tools and skill.
Required Education/Experience:
  • B.S. in Industrial Design or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of consumer product design experience
  • 3+ years of styled surface development
  • Strong Alias experience
  • Familiarity with a parametric CAD system
  • Mechanical interest/aptitude
Skills and Attributes:
  • Direct experience in vehicle design- especially power sports
  • Solidworks experience
  • Skill in Photoshop/Illustrator
  • Skill in digital rendering; i.e. Keyshot
  • Interest/participation in the motorcycle world

Customer Service - Electrical Engineer

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently seeking a Customer Service Electrical Engineer. The Customer Service - Electrical Engineer will support partners (including dealers and distributors) by responding to inquiries and technical requests about the electrical aspects of Zero Motorcycle’s products. You will provide second-tier troubleshooting guidance for electrical field issues experienced by owner’s motorcycles and work with our partners to ensure each issue is resolved in a timely and high quality manner. This guidance primarily will consist of reviewing log files and suggesting symptom diagnostic approaches. When necessary, you will escalate issues to the product development or manufacturing operations teams to expedite their resolution.

On a weekly basis, you will analyze electrical technical issues to identify trends and recommend improvements in tools, training or documentation to eliminate or acceleration the resolution of future problems. This analysis will also be use to deliver a weekly top ten electrical issues list to be reviewed with the product development team. This position is full time and will be working in our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the Director of Customer Experience & Aftersales.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide rapid and accurate responses to partners’ questions by telephone and email.
  • Conduct remote technical support and troubleshooting sessions via LogMeIn.
  • Record details of interactions with partners in our Salesforce CRM system.
  • Communicate and coordinate with internal departments including development and manufacturing operations to ensure escalated issues are revolved in a timely manner.
  • Help improve diagnostic tools by providing detailed feedback to our technical training and development teams.
  • Where necessary, draft service bulletins, service instructions or system diagnostics for review and release by our technical training team.
  • Participate in on-going product training to improve overall technical skill.
Required Education/Experience:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience using standard electronic test instruments (understanding of motorcycles, automobiles or electric vehicles a plus).
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency with a computer including connecting external devices (USB, RS232, and programming devices), using terminal programs, retrieving and storing files in remote locations and configuring systems with new software.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications including Word and Excel (experience with Salesforce.com a plus).

Engineering – Electrical Systems Engineer

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently seeking an Electrical Systems Engineer. This individual will have a good understanding of electrical systems design and how it affects electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) in both immunity and emissions. This individual will work within a team of electrical engineers to design cutting edge electric motorcycles and all the systems that make these vehicles perform safely, predictably, and excitingly. This individual will play a key role in helping to define the motorcycles systems, insuring the motorcycles pass EMC testing, production test systems are in place for PCBA functional testing, and contribute to overall product design. This position is full time and will be working in our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the Director of Electrical Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with the team to define high level system architecture with a focus on its effects on EMC.
  • Champion testing product to EMC specifications both in house on our own test setups as well as at the lab and during witness testing. This will involve coordinating with the engineering team, test laboratory, homologation team, and certification agencies.
  • Conduct peer reviews of designs, features, and marketing/engineering specifications.
  • Perform circuit design, schematic entry, and oversee board layout for functional test stations used in production.
  • Write embedded firmware functional for test stations used in production.
  • Write test plans, execute them, and document results.
  • Assist with building a test infrastructure to get full test coverage of all features.
Required Education/Experience:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 2-4 Years of professional engineering experience in related field
  • Experience testing EMC, the equipment used and working with laboratories
  • Experience with embedded systems hardware and software
  • Experience with analog and digital circuit design, power electronics is a plus
  • Experience and understanding of antenna design a plus
  • Automotive power train systems or EV systems experience preferred

Director - Information Technology

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently recruiting for a Director of Information Technology. The Director of Information Technology oversees the solution portfolio of all corporate information systems and the staff responsible for supporting, enhancing and developing them. The director facilitates the prioritization of requests from internal stakeholders. He/she rationalizes these requests against available information technology resources and budgets to determine the best means of automating business processes and delivering the needed solutions. The director leads a team that includes an IT Project Manager, IT Systems Programmers and third party service providers. He/she establishes an annual IT budget, manages IT expenditures and delivers new functionality on schedule.

A key priority will be the improvement of internal mission critical systems to improve their integration and performance. These priorities will include an upgrade of the existing Intuitive ERP System and the identification and resolution of system limitations. This position is full time and will be working at our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the Chief Financial Officer.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Recommends information technology strategies, policies, and procedures by identifying problems, evaluating trends and anticipating requirements.
  • Solicits IT needs of different functional groups. Sets cross group priorities and assigns the resources needed to accomplish them - chairs regular meetings of Zero’s IT Steering Committee.
  • Assures all projects are initiated with appropriate requirements documents and necessary project plans. Monitors scope and requirements throughout the project to ensure delivery within determined budget and timeframes. Identifies and mitigates or resolves project risks and issues.
  • Serves as the functional group’s primary interface with third party service providers. Negotiates contracts and manages performance to these contracts.
  • Sets, tracks and adheres to IT operating and capital project budgets.
  • Champions the use and continual improvement of corporate methodologies and processes.
Required Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Information Systems, Systems Engineering, Computer Science or related)
  • Minimum 10 years IT experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role
  • Experience with the management of one or all of the following systems is desired:
    • Intuitive ERP, powered by Aptean;
    • Oracle’s Agile Product Lifecycle Management;
    • Salesforce.com; SFDC admin experience a plus
  • Experience with the information technology needs of multinational, manufacturing companies
  • Understanding of agile development methodologies applied to development of proprietary corporate applications
Skills and Attributes:

Powertrain Engineer

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently recruiting for a Powertrain Engineer Control Specialist. This position will work with motor controller partner to build the next generation controller for Zero Motorcycles. Optimize powertrain performance with the Zero Motorcycles engineering team, supporting the team with integration of the motor controller, and overall system architecture where required. This position is full time and will be working at our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the Director of Powertrain Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage requirements and specifications between Zero Motorcycles and our motor controller partner.
  • Visit suppliers for collaborative development.
  • Performance tuning of powertrain.
Required Education/Experience:
  • B.S in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • Extensive experience with embedded systems, hardware and software.
  • Minimum 2 years Electric Vehicle powertrain or similar system experience.
