Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently looking for an Electrical Engineer, Quality. This position will be responsible for electrical assemblies and electrical subsystems hardware. Insure quality and reliability is built in at Design phase. This position is full time M-F and will be working at our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the VP of Quality.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate and coordinate with Operations, Supply Chain, and other Engineering disciplines to provide technical oversight to resolve issues arising in production, testing, and integration. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Troubleshooting hardware and process issues down to component level, resolution of product ability issues on production lines and in testing, and at suppliers, failure analysis, root cause determination, corrective action implementation, hardware disposition, perform analog and digital circuit analysis, characterizing and modeling electrical signals of electronics subsystems in simulation, problem assessment/summarization and presentation to internal and external customers, and related responsibilities to maintain production schedule.
  • Review designs periodically for obsolescence issues, and recommend/implement changes as required. Provide requirements on new electrical designs to assure quality and reliability is built in from Concept.
Required Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. Master’s degree preferred
Skills and Attributes:
  • Minimum of 4 years electrical engineering design experience, including circuit design, assembly, electrical test and production support (Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of directly related post-collegiate experience)
  • Knowledge of printed circuit board fabrication and circuit card assembly processes and related industry specifications
  • Knowledge of analog, digital, and mixed signal circuit design and analysis
  • Experience and command of circuit simulation and analysis tools
  • Experience in Root-Cause Corrective Action investigations
  • Knowledge and experience with Material Review Board, Process Configuration Board, Configuration Control Board and Failure Review Board processes, proposing/defending and implementing Change Notices
  • Experience in resolving production issues with suppliers and sub-tier suppliers
  • Technical writing and formal presentation experience
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas to audiences with varying degrees of technical background
  • Experience in applying SPC methods in achieving production yield improvements
    • LabVIEW program development/Data Acquisition experience a plus
    • Licensed Motorcycle Rider (M1 holder) a plus.
  • Successful candidate will be a self-starter with proven project organization and execution skills, multi-tasking and verbal/written communication and presentation skills, and experience in schedule-critical environment.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:
  • Candidate must be able to sit for long periods of time to perform duties.
  • Must have the ability to walk around and make inquiries from other staff, management, etc.
  • Must be able to bend or stoop down to access files, including lifting of items or objects up to 50 lbs.

Electrical Engineer – Vehicle Systems Integration

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is interested in placing an engineer in the Electrical Engineering group responsible for integrating major electrical system componentry. A key task of this position is to design wiring harnesses meeting the rigors of off-highway vehicle use cases under the pressures of commercial pricing structures and component utilization. This position is full time and will be working at our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and report to the Director of Electrical Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with team of designers to design wiring harnesses that physically connect both in-house developed and off-the-shelf devices, while meeting cost, quality and timing targets
  • Create and maintain electrical system architecture schematics
  • Engage in relationships across Zero Motorcycles to successfully track and assist in product development deliverables with current suppliers and open doors of new suppliers offering step-function value growth to the company
  • Support the successful integration of vehicle systems through the development of robust specification and technical solutions
  • Perform detailed design peer reviews including assist in program content shaping as vehicle developments change scope in the product development lifecycle
  • Create Documentation of Value including wiring harness build-to-print designs, Test Procedures, Intended Installation Instructions, Development reports, Summaries of Tradeshow Attendance, Knowledge-base articles and distilled Industry Standard guidelines
Required Education/Experience:
  • Combination of:
    • Bachelor’s in related Engineering field, i.e. Electrical, Aerospace, Mechatronics, or equivalent work experience and training/professional development
    • 5-8 yrs Transportation Industry experience including product development, release to production, and sustaining engineering support activities
  • Electric Power conversion techniques
  • EV/HEV architecture knowledge and bias due to critical thinking and experimentation.
Skills and Attributes:
  • Hands-on wiring harness assembly knowledge and technique including in-line termination styles, branch layup, connector component terminology, fixing elements, materials selection, SI methods, conductor and fuse sizing, and life expectancy protection
  • Strong working knowledge of software-based wiring harness design tools and corresponding output design specification package contents
  • 3D MCAD navigation, SolidWorks preferred
  • 3-5 years of program and product data lifecycle tool usage and track record of engagement in improvement activities
  • Transparent time management and task prioritization habits
  • Exhibit exceptional troubleshooting and problem solving skills
Physical and Sensory Requirements:

Production Supervisor/Manager

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently looking to fill the role of Production Supervisor. This position will be responsible for delivering against the production schedule and ensuring that Zero products are produced repeatedly in accordance to the documented design. The Production Supervisor will be expected to review quality performance, volume metrics and promote a continual improvement environment. The Production Supervisor will be expected to manage effectively the production staff in regards to quality, efficiency and overall performance. This position is full time M-F and will be working at our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the VP of Operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Completes production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel, establishes priorities by monitoring progress and resolving problems.
  • Accomplishes manufacturing staff results by communicating job expectations, monitoring results, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees.
  • Oversee production staff including recruiting and training of employees with encouragement for developing personal growth opportunities and training certificates.
  • Initiating, coordinating, and ensuring systems, policies, and procedures are followed.
  • Maintains work-flow by monitoring steps of the process, observing control points and equipment.
  • Involvement in future design review meetings to improve the manufacturing process and increased capacity requirements.
  • Implements cost reduction initiatives as part of a continuous improvement (Kaizen) program.
  • A continual improvement approach, studying methods, implementing cost reductions and improving efficiency.
  • Provides manufacturing information by compiling and analyzing production performance records and data.
  • Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of equipment and resources while maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Works with other department managers to implement company’s policies and goals.

Sr. Test Engineer

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently looking for a Sr. Test Engineer. This individual will be the foundation of a test engineering team with a large range of test skills.

This individual will augment our very strong prototype and test team. The individual will work with many different people and departments to define test needs and deliverables including, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, powertrain engineering, as well as outside test services. We are looking for someone that is well rounded, has a good understanding of every aspect of vehicle test development, and has experience with product test from design verification/validation, to component shock and vibe, thermal stress, HALT, component fatigue, full vehicle NVH, strain gage schemes, etc..

The person we are looking for is confident in their ability to lead the way in instituting a well-documented test process. This position is full time and will be working at our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and report to the Director of Prototype & Test.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Writes, edits, and publishes test procedures and plans, including necessary records and desired output documents.
  • Works with other departments to help identify areas that can be made more robust by intelligent use of discovery through test.
  • Work with outside test services to communicate defined test projects, track progress, insure testing is completed satisfactorily, and make decisions to keep test projects on track.
  • Assist with the planning and building of our test infrastructure for expanding our in house test capabilities.
  • Support ongoing test projects with oversight and assistance.
  • Participate in efforts to share test technology and expertise within the company; mentor junior and aspiring test engineers.
  • Perform tasks efficiently and work together with a team to ensure project success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must work well with a strong, tight knit team.
Required Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical Degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ten or more years’ experience in vehicle test environment.
  • Automotive, EV, HEV, motorcycle, test experience a strong plus.
Skills and Attributes:
  • Proven working experience in test development.
  • Expert knowledge of vehicle test.
  • Knowledge and experience with data acquisition and sensor specification and deployment.
  • Knowledge of HBM eDAQ lite and InField or equivalent tools.
  • Experience and knowledge of strain gage application and post processing.
  • Ability to create a fully instrumented vehicle for the collection of Road Load Data.
  • Experience with data analysis and reporting.
  • Transparent time management and task prioritization habits.
