Customer Service - Electrical Engineer

Summary of Position:

The Customer Service - Electrical Engineer will support partners (including dealers and distributors) by responding to inquiries and technical requests about the electrical aspects of Zero Motorcycle’s products. You will provide second-tier troubleshooting guidance for electrical field issues experienced by owner’s motorcycles and work with our partners to ensure each issue is resolved in a timely and high quality manner. This guidance primarily will consist of reviewing log files and suggesting symptom diagnostic approaches. When necessary, you will escalate issues to senior support engineers or service management team members to expedite their resolution.

On a weekly basis, you will analyze electrical technical issues to identify trends and recommend improvements in tools, training or documentation to eliminate or acceleration the resolution of future problems. This analysis will also be use to deliver a weekly top ten electrical issues list to be reviewed with the product development, manufacturing operations and quality teams. This position is full time M-F and will be working at our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the Director Customer Experience and Aftersales.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide rapid and accurate responses to partners’ questions by telephone and email
  • Conduct remote technical support and troubleshooting sessions via LogMeIn
  • Record details of interactions with partners in our Salesforce CRM system
  • Communicate and coordinate with internal departments including development and manufacturing operations to ensure escalated issues are revolved in a timely manner
  • Help improve diagnostic tools by providing detailed feedback to our technical training and development teams
  • Where necessary, draft service bulletins, service instructions or system diagnostics for review and release by our technical training team
  • Participate in on-going product training to improve overall technical skill
Required Education/Experience:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience using standard electronic test instruments (understanding of motorcycles, automobiles or electric vehicles a plus)
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency with a computer including connecting external devices (USB, RS232, programming devices), using terminal programs, retrieving and storing files in remote locations and configuring systems with new software
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications including Word and Excel (experience with Salesforce.com a plus)

Dealer Development and Sales Analyst

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently looking for a Dealer Development and Sales Analyst. This position works directly and supports the Director of Sales and in addition, supports the Regional Sales Directors at the direction of the Director of Sales. This position is full time and will be working in our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the Director of Sales.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Distributor/Dealer Development Support: Responsible for working directly with Director of Sales and the Sales Field Team to develop new dealers / distributors in North, Central and South America; including, but not limited to:
    • Conducts market analysis to determine open points for new dealer acquisitions.
    • Develops, evaluates and manages “New Dealer Inquiries” processes and provides evaluation to Field Staff for conducting interviews.
    • Prepares market assessments; summarizing key dealer information and SWOT analysis with the support of the Sales Field Team.
    • Ensures Relevant Market Area (RMA) statutory compliance for NA markets.
    • Conducts ad hoc market analysis to identify and presents development strategies for key markets. Runs reports, interprets and analyzes data, presents and makes recommendations to management, including, but not limited to the Dealer Performance Reporting / Dealer Profile / Dealer Contact Report .
    • Processes and coordinates new dealer and/or change-in status applications including communications (verbal and/or written) with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Prepares, reviews and distributes dealer agreements and distributor agreements including renewal.
    • Drives the processes with Key Stakeholders in Shipping, Customer Service (Service Training), Customer Service (Parts), Finance, and Marketing for new dealer acquisitions and terminations when they occur.
    • Prepares and coordinates new and updated amendments, addendums, LOI's, Conditional Approvals and personal/corporate guarantees to the dealer agreement.
    • Manages State Licensing compliance.
  • Project Management: Responsible for projects as assigned by Director of NA Sales. Includes but is not limited to:
    • Assists management in developing and administering dealer and consumer programs.
    • Manages annual distributor/dealer meetings if/when held.
    • Manages the distributor/dealer annual and ongoing sales programs.
  • Sales: Responsible for working directly with Director of Sales in supporting the field staff; including, but not limited to:
    • Works with the sales team on compiling, reviewing and distributing weekly reporting.
    • Constantly reviews and analyzes dealer sales / credit worthiness and proactively prompt the Regional Sales director (e.g. no sales within 30 days, ongoing dealer financing issues, YOY sales decrease, potential risk of voluntary termination, warranty issues, etc.)
    • Works with Director of Sales on developing and implementing a dealer contact report.
    • Works with Director of Sales and the Zero Hero Program manager on initiating incentive programs.
Required Education/Experience:
  • Paralegal Certification and/or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Organizational and project management duties in an environment that maintains strict processes and guidelines for optimal performance.
  • Experience with or seasoned understanding of a manufacturer within the motorcycle industry preferred.
  • Interdepartmental coordination.
  • Small company or Start-up environments with dynamic and fluid momentum.
  • Working with various departments to achieve success metrics and continually improve processes.
Skills and Attributes:
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills.
  • Understanding and managing to structured sales processes.
  • Experienced MS Excel user; familiarity with PowerPoint, mapping and data management tools is an advantage.
  • Experience with CRM systems – Salesforce.com is a plus.

Engineering – Electrical Systems Engineer - EMC

Summary of Position:

Zero motorcycles is looking for an individual to carry out its program of Electromagnetic Compliance (EMC) in both immunity and emissions. This individual will work within a team of electrical engineers to design cutting edge electric motorcycles and all the systems that make these vehicles perform safely, predictably, and excitingly. This individual will play a key role in helping to define the motorcycles systems, insuring the motorcycles pass EMC testing, and contribute to overall product design. This position is full time and will be working in our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the Director of Electrical Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with the team to define high level system architecture with a focus on its effects on EMC.
  • Learn the specific regulations and test protocols that apply to our products, and help tailor test plans to demonstrate compliance using a minimum of testing resources.
  • Champion testing product to EMC specifications both in-house, at the external lab and during witness testing, under the supervision of a senior engineer. This will involve coordinating with the engineering team, test laboratory, homologation team, and certification agencies.
  • Conduct peer reviews of designs, features, and marketing/engineering specifications.
  • Write test plans, execute them, and document results.
  • Construct or procure necessary test equipment or fixtures as needed.
Required Education/Experience:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics or equivalent experience.
  • 0-5 Years of professional engineering experience in related field.
  • Experience testing EMC, the equipment used and working with laboratories is a plus.
  • Experience with embedded systems hardware and software is a plus.
  • Experience with analog and digital circuit design, power electronics is a plus.
  • Experience and understanding of antenna design a plus.
  • Experience in automotive power train systems or EV systems is a plus.

VP of Quality

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently looking for a VP of Quality. This position will be responsible for establishing a corporate quality system and team that ensures customer satisfaction and that positively impacts the financial performance of Zero Motorcycles. Champion tools for designing-in and assuring quality, as well as continuous improvement efforts and defect reduction initiatives, both at Zero Motorcycles and at our Suppliers. Establish and maintain an effective Quality Management System (QMS); initiate and implement quality improvement activities as appropriate (e.g., Kaizen, Six Sigma) to raise the performance of the company in terms of the quality, reliability and acceptance of its products, by its customers and distribution partners. This position is full time and will be working in our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the CEO.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Build on the Quality Management System manual / documentation already developed at Zero, to develop and improve the effectiveness of our quality systems across the company’s operations end to end.
  • Using knowledge of customer concerns and requirements, partner closely with engineering, production, production engineering and customer service upfront to enable the development/specification of robust design and manufacturing processes in order to deliver world-class products (e.g. implementation and leadership of DFMEA process).
  • Ensure up-front quality is built into both the design and supplier manufacturing process through industry standard practices, such as appropriate dimensioning and tolerancing, key product characteristics, process flow diagrams, process control plans, etc.
  • Specific to firmware, oversee the implementation of regression testing and other quality controls to ensure released code is bug-free.
  • Enforce quality assurance policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and all applicable standards worldwide.
  • Serve as the primary quality assurance resource for problem identification, resolution, reporting and continuous improvement. Perform root-cause analysis and other problem solving activities to identify effective corrective actions and process improvements.
  • Support engineering / development team efforts by participating in design reviews representing quality assurance and the voice of the customer.
  • In collaboration with Engineering and Procurement, lead quality assurance at our suppliers via monitoring of their manufacturing process as spelled out in developed control plans (material certifications, inspection reports, test reports, supplier visits, etc.)
  • Design, implement and document procedures for process control, process improvement, first articles inspection (FAI), incoming parts inspection and final QC inspection.
  • In collaboration with Customer Service, establish and implement a system for collecting, analyzing and reporting on quality issues affecting our owner’s experience with our vehicles. Review the data with the engineering and operations teams and ensure it is actionable to enable them to make sound product design and supplier related decisions.
  • Develop and implement a Supplier Qualification and Approval process. Monitor supplier performance and establish criteria and rating system for critical suppliers. Interface with supplier and customer quality representatives concerning problems with quality control and assure that effective corrective action is implemented.
  • Implement, improve and maintain quality inspection process of incoming materials (according to agreed-upon sample rate, per part number), including First Article Inspection (FAI), Non-Conforming Material (NCM) reports and metrics
  • Manage the process, control, and security of NCM area (Non-Conforming Material)
  • In collaboration with Production Engineering, implement, improve and maintain quality controls in our production line (control plans, fixtures and equipment for quality assurance, QC inspect of completed bikes, COP audits, Right-First-Time reports, Concerns Per Hundred and Incidents Per Hundred reports, etc.)
  • In collaboration with Customer Service, interact directly with customers, dealers and distributors to identify opportunities to improve quality and provide feedback to manufacturing and engineering personnel.
  • In partnership with the functional heads across the company create an accountable and quality based culture. Educate and train employees as to their impact in the quality management system.
  • Effectively create and support process enhancement initiatives to maintain an environment of continuous improvement throughout the organization. Provide effective leadership support, training and guidance to all company personnel.
Required Education/Experience:
  • BS or BA degree with 10+ years’ experience in a similar organization with at least five of those years in a senior management role.
  • Experience in the automotive industry (cars or motorcycles) is a must.
  • Must have a demonstrable record of implementing and maintaining a total quality system; laying out a strategic plan and overseeing the tactical implementation, driving improved operational and quality metrics. This person will assure that systems are in place and that inter- and intradepartmental communications are such that “things be done only once – the right way.”
  • Successful development and implementation of a quality strategy for a manufacturing operations environment. Successful in implementing consistent standards.
