Notes From the Founder - Neal Saiki

Zero Motorcycles is the fulfillment of my enduring passion for fun on 2 wheels. When I was a boy, I remember being completely enthralled as I watched Evel Knievel pull off yet another insane jump. It was only natural that I’d try to do the same thing on my older brother’s Schwinn Stingray. It was probably smart of my parents to turn my attention away from riding and toward engineering. In college, I received both my degrees in aeronautical engineering. To me, aerospace technology was the pinnacle of engineering and I wanted to learn as much as possible. After heading up a major aircraft design project in the aerospace industry I decided to take that knowledge and start my own business designing full suspension mountain bikes and motorcycles.

Along the way, my passion and deep appreciation for the environment grew. My engineering experience on high altitude aircraft gave me a first-hand look at the destruction of the ozone layer. I had also worked with NASA on transportation solutions for the future and, from an engineering standpoint, it’s obvious that electric vehicles are the most practical solution. However, practicality is not the only way society chooses their mode of transportation. Certainly Evel Knievel was not a practical guy.

The goal of Zero Motorcycles is to make electric motorcycles that are both practical and fun. Really fun! The power and performance of a well engineered and quiet electric motorcycle is nothing less than absolutely thrilling. That’s the secret nobody knows about. It’s going to be a revolution and I’m proud to be part of it.
