Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is a manufacturer of electric motorcycles for the consumer and fleet markets. Headquartered in Scotts Valley California, we design and build our product onsite and have been doing so since 2006. We are looking for an individual to join our engineering team as a battery specialist, and bring a strong focus of quality, verification, and regression testing to our design methodology.

This individual must have a deep understanding of current and emerging battery technology with an emphasis on the EV space. This position needs to understand all of the different parameters of lithium ion batteries and what is important for a given application and use profile. This person also needs to master all the design criteria that need careful consideration for the integration of battery technologies into battery modules, systems, and equipment that is exposed to the elements. This person will engage with battery manufactures to find the most technologically advanced cells on the market that will be the best fit for our application at the best cost. They will also lead the effort to integrate these solutions into our battery systems, test that they meet all design criteria, and move them through the design methodology to production.

The person we are looking for is confident in their ability to lead the way to insuring that Zero Motorcycles continues to have the most advanced, powerful, robust, and energy dense battery, at market competitive pricing. This position is full time and will be working at our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and report to the Director of Electrical Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Own the battery pack development for Zero Motorcycles from concept to production handoff
  • Develop cell interconnectivity, cell-box packaging, connector interfaces, and other battery technology
  • Stay informed on latest battery development, research, suppliers, manufacturers, pricing, and manufacturing techniques
  • Provide direction to the engineering team on cell technology, battery advancement roadmap, and pack design
  • Aid Zero in vetting potential suppliers, from a technical and capability standpoint
  • Collaborate closely with Zero Motorcycles’ selected cell supplier
  • Work with other electrical engineers, connector/harness engineers, mechanical engineers, and chemical engineers to design battery packs. This includes writing specifications, coordinating design of the many elements, proving feasibility through early testing, confirming full functionality of representative design, testing durability of design, testing for regulatory compliance, and insuring manufacturing engineering can build the design in production
  • Work closely with the systems team on battery safety features for product as well as production
  • Work with the test group on cell/pack testing by writing clear and concise test specifications/procedures, assist with setting up the tests as needed, and evaluate/report test results
Required Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent technical Degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Eight or more years’ experience in product development environment, and five or more of those years on battery systems
  • Experience with Li-Ion battery chemistries, cell design, cell performance characterizations, pack and Battery Management System (BMS) integration, pack durability, and pack weatherproofing
  • Automotive, EV, HEV, experience a strong plus
Skills and Attributes:

Buyer I

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently looking for a Buyer I who will manage the purchasing transactions for assigned suppliers and commodities. This is an entry level position in supply management but the personnel will become critical in ensuring execution of supplier strategies, material availability for production line and internal customers, and cooperation with internal stakeholders. This position is full time M-F and will be working at our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the Purchasing Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage purchasing transactions to ensure material/service availability for product line and internal customers.
    • Review/execute planned purchasing orders for inventory purchases
    • Review Buyer Workbench in ERP for rescheduling or cancellation messages
    • Analyze supply & demand to confirm the system generated buy request
    • Maintain relevant purchasing data

Customer Service - Mechanical Engineer

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently seeking a Customer Service - Mechanical Engineer. This position will support partners (including dealers and distributors) by responding to inquiries and technical requests about the mechanical aspects of Zero Motorcycle’s products. You will provide second-tier troubleshooting guidance for mechanical field issues experienced by owner’s motorcycles and work with our partners to ensure each issue is resolved in a timely and high quality manner. This guidance primarily will consist of reviewing pictures, discussing failures with partners and suggesting symptom diagnostic approaches. When necessary, you will escalate issues to the product development or manufacturing operations teams to expedite their resolution.

On a weekly basis, you will analyze mechanical technical issues to identify trends and recommend improvements in tools, training or documentation to eliminate or acceleration the resolution of future problems. This analysis will also be use to deliver a weekly top ten mechanical issues list to be reviewed with the product development team.

Because our motorcycles are electric vehicles, you are expected to achieve a basic proficiency in debugging electrical issues to support those needs as they arise. This position is full time and will be working at our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and report to the Director of Customer Experience and Aftersales.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide rapid and accurate responses to partners’ questions by telephone and email
  • Conduct remote technical support and trouble shooting sessions via phone or LogMeIn (as appropriate)
  • Record details of interactions with partners in our Salesforce CRM system
  • Communicate and coordinate with internal departments including development and manufacturing operations to ensure escalated issues are revolved in a timely manner
  • Help improve service tools by providing detailed feedback to our technical training and development teams

Key Responsibilities:
  • As a key functional leader within the Engineering organization, this position owns the responsibility to deliver all defined deliverables related to new model development programs within the scope of the vehicle electrical architecture up to and including defining the electrical architecture itself
  • Provide management and oversight for design verification test activities including QA/regression testing as well as all functional and performance related testing
  • Provide technical support to the Aftersales organization to analyze and resolve customer concerns from global markets

Director, Warehouse Operations & Logistics

Zero Motorcycles is seeking a motivated and experienced Inventory Control & Warehouse Operations and Logistics Director, who will establish material flows and control processes to ensure accurate inventory, and traceability of materials throughout the ZMC supply chain. In addition the Director will be responsible for all timely material production and after sales support and optimizing ZMC’s inbound and outbound logistics worldwide. This position is full time and will be working at our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and report to the VP of Operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage existing and establish new inventory control procedures and policies across global ZMC operations. Design the Storeroom/Warehouse set up a bin-locator system.
  • Manage all of shipping, receiving, warehouse, materials movements and aftersales/warrenty materials support.
  • Set appropriate customer service levels to support the needs of the customer service organization in regards to picking, kitting and shipping warranty and after-sales items.
  • Develops warehouse operations systems by determining product handling and storage requirements; developing, implementing, enforcing, and evaluating policies and procedures; developing processes for receiving product, equipment utilization, and inventory management, and shipping logistics.
  • Achieves warehouse operations operational objectives by contributing warehouse operations information and recommendations to strategic growth plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends.
  • Recommends, negotiates and schedules optimal transportation modes, routing, equipment, and frequency for all in-bound and out-bound shipments.
  • Analyses and oversees our global inbound and outbound logistics requirements and determines appropriate strategies to minimize total cost of ownership and maximize customer satisfaction.
  • Plans and supervises the crating of bikes and packaging of parts and accessories. Ensures accurate and timely shipments of all scheduled/planned orders, products and materials including dangerous goods.
  • Design, implement and continuously improve Kanban for production material control.
  • Develop strategies for improving operational efficiencies, ensuring compliance to procedures for the receipt of goods and inventory management to ensure 99% accurate inventory levels within ERP system, as reflection of actual physical inventory.
  • Review and establish procedures and maintain effective internal control over the physical product flow and accounting of inventory receiving, internal transfers/goods movements, vendor consignments, and shipping.
  • Organize inventory audits by working with both internal and external auditing teams.
  • Design, implement and execute cycle count programs for production inventory.

Zero Motorcycles is currently seeking a Product Development Project Coordinator within our Engineering team. This position is responsible for the technical coordination and support of engineering development projects. The successful candidate owns following up on component, system and vehicle development day-to-day activities with engineering and other functional teams, having the top level project goals in sight at all times. As a Program Coordinator within the Product Development organization, this position coordinates the development process for our cross-functional product development teams. This position is full time and will be working at our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and report to the VP of Product Development.

Key Responsibilities:

The Product Development Project Coordinator must be able to prioritize activities and track the details as well as be in touch with the big picture objectives. This position must be a fearless organizer who is ready to work with the highly skilled engineering hardware and software design teams, as well as every other functional area involved in Product Development, in order to identify and resolve potential risks to the schedule and/or to the quality of the product. The Project Coordinator needs to have a strong understanding and mastery of Zero’s Product Development processes and systems used to track all corresponding activity, from part design and procurement, to system and vehicle level verification, to production validation and ramp-up.

Zero Motorcycles is looking for someone who is flexible and can respond quickly, energetically, and enthusiastically to changes. Cross-functional communication skills and experience are essential. The Project Coordinator will interact with all product engineering disciplines, as well as Purchasing, Quality, Production Engineering, Marketing & Sales, Customer Service, Operations, Industrial Design, and other resources inside and outside Zero.

Required Education/Experience:
  • BS ME/EE degree required
  • 2-4+ years of industry experience
  • 2-4+ years of project management experience

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently looking for a Sr. Quality Assurance Engineer. We are looking for an individual to join our engineering team and bring a strong focus of quality, verification, and regression testing to our design methodology.

This position will be responsible for setting up processes for insuring product is tested before being introduced, and regression tested when any update occurs. They will design and implement the infrastructure to automate regression testing and train engineers to incorporate the processes of testing into their design methodology.

The person we are looking for is confident in their ability to lead the way in instituting a quality department within our engineering team. This position is full time and will be working at our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and report to the Director of Electrical Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review product design documentation to ensure that requirements stated are correct, unambiguous, and verifiable.
  • Consult with product development to evaluate system interfaces, operational requirements, and performance requirements of overall system.
  • Define test methods and create test plans for new or updated software projects to determine if the software will perform accurately and reliably according to documented requirements as well as established standards under both normal and abnormal conditions.
  • Recommend design improvements or corrections to engineers throughout the development process.
  • Maintain effective communication with the project software engineers on project limitation, capability, performance requirement and hardware interface changes.
  • Execute test plans and create test reports to describe program evaluation, testing, and correction.
  • Monitor program performance after implementation to prevent reoccurrence of program operating problems and ensure efficiency of operation.
  • Conduct compatibility tests with vendor-provided programs.
  • Create test tools that facilitate data gathering and test method execution.
  • Support manufacturing by verifying fixture software or any software used during production.
  • Design and build automated regression test systems to validate product.
  • Report on product status and raise the flag if it is not up to safety or quality standards.
  • Participate in risk management meetings.
Required Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent technical Degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ten or more years’ experience in product development environment, and 5 years’ experience in quality assurance.
  • Automotive, EV, HEV, experience a strong plus
Skills and Attributes:
  • Proven working experience in software development

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently looking for a Sr. Test Engineer. This individual will be the foundation of a test engineering team with a large range of test skills.

This individual will augment our very strong prototype and test team. The individual will work with many different people and departments to define test needs and deliverables including, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, powertrain engineering, as well as outside test services. We are looking for someone that is well rounded, has a good understanding of every aspect of vehicle test development, and has experience with product test from design verification/validation, to component shock and vibe, thermal stress, HALT, component fatigue, full vehicle NVH, strain gage schemes, etc..

The person we are looking for is confident in their ability to lead the way in instituting a well-documented test process. This position is full time and will be working at our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and report to the Director of Prototype & Test.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Writes, edits, and publishes test procedures and plans, including necessary records and desired output documents.
  • Works with other departments to help identify areas that can be made more robust by intelligent use of discovery through test.
  • Work with outside test services to communicate defined test projects, track progress, insure testing is completed satisfactorily, and make decisions to keep test projects on track.
  • Assist with the planning and building of our test infrastructure for expanding our in house test capabilities.
  • Support ongoing test projects with oversight and assistance.
  • Participate in efforts to share test technology and expertise within the company; mentor junior and aspiring test engineers.
  • Perform tasks efficiently and work together with a team to ensure project success.

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently looking for a Customer Service - Electrical Engineer. The Customer Service - Electrical Engineer will support partners (including dealers and distributors) by responding to inquiries and technical requests about the electrical aspects of Zero Motorcycle’s products. You will provide second-tier troubleshooting guidance for electrical field issues experienced by owner’s motorcycles and work with our partners to ensure each issue is resolved in a timely and high quality manner. This guidance primarily will consist of reviewing log files and suggesting symptom diagnostic approaches. When necessary, you will escalate issues to the product development or manufacturing operations teams to expedite their resolution.

On a weekly basis, you will analyze electrical technical issues to identify trends and recommend improvements in tools, training or documentation to eliminate or acceleration the resolution of future problems. This analysis will also be used to deliver a weekly top ten electrical issues list to be reviewed with the product development team. This position will be working at our Alkmaar, Netherlands location and will report to the Director of Customer Experience and Aftersales.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide rapid and accurate responses to partners’ questions by telephone and email.
  • Conduct remote technical support and troubleshooting sessions via LogMeIn.
  • Record details of interactions with partners in our Salesforce CRM system.
  • Communicate and coordinate with internal departments including development and manufacturing operations to ensure escalated issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Help improve diagnostic tools by providing detailed feedback to our technical training and development teams.
  • Where necessary, draft service bulletins, service instructions or system diagnostics for review and release by our technical training team.

Required Education/Experience:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience using standard electronic test instruments (understanding of motorcycles, automobiles or electric vehicles a plus)
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency with a computer including connecting external devices (USB, RS232, programming devices), using terminal programs, retrieving and storing files in remote locations and configuring systems with new software
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications including Word and Excel (experience with Salesforce.com a plus)
