Supply Base Manager

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently looking for a Supply Base Manager. The successful candidate will have a role in product and supply chain development within a cross-functional product/platform project team. In this role, the individual will be responsible for developing and managing a world class global supply chain using total cost of ownership models concepts and knowledge of global markets for your assigned commodities. The person in this position will be the driver of the supply selection, supplier management including QBR processes and supplier negotiations. Knowledge of supply bases in Asia and EU are highly desired. This position will work out of our corporate offices in Scotts Valley, California and reports to the Director of Developmental Purchasing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Quality & Cost – Key resource for developing cost targets for new product vehicles, vehicle systems and components, communicating component part or vehicle system performance information, and managing activities to component level quality and reduce vehicle system costs.
  • Product Development and Program Management – This position will work closely with Development Engineering to ensure that the best cost / technology decision are incorporated into new product designs. Ensures that activity within the purchasing community aligns with the Zero Product Development Methodology. Achieve compliance to the Methodology by managing QCT to targets development time lines, and capital costs. Explore new sourcing and process ideas and suggestions with suppliers in concert with Developmental Engineering. Effective and complete transition of sourcing decisions to Operational Purchasing.
  • Communication - This position will be responsible for supplier interface between Zero’s Supplier base and internal customers in Developmental Engineering, Industrial Design, Test, Marketing, Manufacturing and Operations Purchasing. This position is highly visible to all company management levels and requires the ability to present progress and data in a clear and concise manner.
Required Education/Experience:
  • This position requires 5 – 7 years international supplier management experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required.
  • Electrical Engineer or Mechanical Engineering with experience with transportation related electronics.
  • Demonstrated performance and experience in technical competencies of procurement, engineering, or quality is required.
  • Knowledge of TS16949 or similar quality system and PPAP documentation is desired in this position.
  • 25-35% international travel is expected.
  • Fluency in Mandarin is highly desired
Skills and Attributes:

Director of After Sales

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently looking for a Director of Aftersales. This position will be responsible for industry leading customer service at all touch points, and the successful development of a Parts and Accessories business that will drive sustained year-on-year sales and profit growth within the framework of a strategic long range plan. This position will work out of our corporate offices in Scotts Valley, California and reports to the Global Head of Sales/Marketing/Aftersales.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Parts & Accessories Business:
    • Achieve annual Parts and Accessories sales and profit objectives.
    • Develop a highly profitable Parts and Accessories business with clear, measurable sales and profit targets according to a long-range plan (LRP) that reflects sustained long-term growth.
    • Work closely with the operations teams to manage the Aftersales Parts Warehouse in order to optimize parts stock holding through effective forecasting and inventory control in order to balance supply and demand and minimize obsolescence.
    • Set and refine prices and margins for parts and accessories that will optimize profit, are consistent and industry relevant, and sensitive to customer expectations and perception.
    • Continually identify new growth opportunities for the business and make recommendations as to how to implement these.
    • Recommend first order parts quantities and stock holding levels to the dealer network.
    • Develop effective monitoring and reporting systems to reflect Aftersales turnover and profitability and track best selling items in a prioritized manner.
    • Create and deliver innovative Aftersales Development Programs for the dealer and distributor network that measurably result in sales and profit improvements (future).
  • Customer Service:
    • Turn Customer Service into an asset for the company that will contribute to growing the Zero brand.
    • Develop a clear strategy to make it easy for dealers and distributors to do business with Zero.
    • Establish and deliver robust Customer Service programs and plans that drive sustained improvements year-over-year.
    • Monitor and systematically collect defects and failures in the field and develop internal reporting systems to reflect accurate feedback in terms of frequency, costs and ‘degree of discomfort to customers’.
    • Working across the Zero organization, devise prioritized and actionable solutions and track and report CS issues on an ongoing basis.

    • Develop and implement programs that measure Customer Satisfaction along the dimensions our customers, dealers and distributors care about. Implement initiatives on a continuous improvement basis based on what we learn.
    • Develop and implement programs and services that assure consistency of service / support experience through our dealer / distributor network when we do not own or control technical resources at the local level.
    • Build and manage the Customer Service / Aftersales Team to be a cohesive, motivated and effective business unit across Scotts Valley and Alkmaar.
    • Continually review training and development needs of the Aftersales team.

Production Engineer (EE)

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently looking for a Production Engineer – Electrical Engineering. The EE Production Engineer is responsible for developing and continuously improving processes which turn design-intent schematics/drawings and R&D prototypes into current and future products. The PE is also responsible for selecting engineering techniques to solve production problems and for making design recommendations that enhance manufacturability. The Production Engineer will also specify and/or design diagnostic test methods and test equipment, tools, fixtures and processes to increase productivity and improve metrics. This position is full time and will work out of our corporate offices in Scotts Valley, California and will report to the Director of Production and Quality Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provides leadership as the Manufacturing representative during development cycle of new products with an emphasis on Electrical Engineering, firmware/software and DFM best practices. Interfaces with Development Engineering to ensure seamless transition of new products into production.
  • Proactively identifies production bottlenecks and introduces processes which contribute to efficiency improvements. Identifies and proactively introduces solutions to improve under-performing production processes.
  • Drives continuous improvement in production, by contributing to the design and implementation of software/scripts and interfaces that facilitate the electrical testing required for thoroughly vetting all electrical systems on ZMC vehicles and test equipment.
  • Participates in the MRB process, generation of PCAR’s, ECN’s, PCN’s and DA’s as required.
  • Plans, directs and coordinates manufacturing processes and documents manufacturing procedures (MP’s) and operating procedures (OP’s).
  • Develops, evaluates and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, test equipment, and quality control standards.
  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, and designs layout of equipment (including automated production line) and work space using Kaizen principles for maximum efficiency.
  • Confers with suppliers when needed to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifying actions and quality standards.
  • Estimates production times and staffing requirements regarding manufacturing production processes.
  • Applies statistical modeling and methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
  • Ensures routine maintenance is scheduled and performed on production equipment with minimum impact to production flow. Coordinates with external contractors to schedule repairs or maintenance as required.
Required Education/Experience:
  • BSEE degree or higher.
  • Proficient with MAT Lab, Arduino, Pspice, LabView, or equivalents.
  • Must have a minimum of five years of Manufacturing Engineering experience with demonstrated knowledge of EE diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, vehicle control systems, batteries, motors, and controllers, and test equipment design.
  • Fluent with bills of material structures and engineering change controls and documentation.

Information Technology Manager

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently recruiting for an Information Technology Manager. The Information Technology Manager will plan, direct and coordinate the development, implementation and administration of the company’s critical information systems and information technology assets. Your project management skills will be called upon to deliver new corporate systems functionality. You will lead cross organization initiatives and manage various outside contractors that will provide the programming and implementation expertise necessary to deliver projects on schedule. Initially this person also will support IT Service Desk needs in conjunction with our IT Help Desk service provider. This position is full time and will be working at our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the Director of Customer Experience and Corporate Systems.

Powertrain Engineer

This position will work with motor controller partner to build the next generation controller for Zero Motorcycles. VP of Product Development

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently looking for a VP of Product Development. The VP of Product Development will have three primary responsibilities: (1) direct management of all four Engineering functions, (2) managing Zero’s Product Development projects, and (3) deliver sound engineering judgment in key engineering operational decisions. This position ensures that the appropriate resources, talent, and budget are in place within Engineering to successfully deliver on its operational commitments, which include new product development and support of existing product. This position is full time and will be working at our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and currently reports to the Chief Technology Officer.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manages Zero’s Mechanical, Electrical, Powertrain and Prototype & Testing Engineering Departments.
  • Responsible for managing the departmental creation of approved Engineering budgets, and ensuring that the Directors operate within them. In order to effectively and efficiently deliver on Engineering commitments:
    • Manages Engineering human resourcing, including individual growth plans, to ensure appropriate type, quantity and talent of staff are in place
    • Ensures that solid Engineering tools, systems and processes are in place and maintained, as required
  • Responsible for the creation of Product Development project plans, according to approved content and timelines, including corresponding Test Plans.

VP of Quality

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently looking for a VP of Quality. The VP of Quality will be responsible for establishing a corporate quality system and team that ensures customer satisfaction and that positively impacts the financial performance of Zero Motorcycles. Champion tools for designing-in and assuring quality, as well as continuous improvement efforts and defect reduction initiatives, both at Zero Motorcycles and at our Suppliers. Establish and maintain an effective Quality Management System (QMS); initiate and implement quality improvement activities as appropriate (e.g., Kaizen, Six Sigma) to raise the performance of the company in terms of the quality, reliability and acceptance of its products, by its customers and distribution partners. This position is full time and will be working at our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and currently reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Build on the Quality Management System manual / documentation already developed at Zero, to develop and improve the effectiveness of our quality systems across the company’s operations end to end.
  • Using knowledge of customer concerns and requirements, partner closely with engineering, production and customer service upfront to enable the development/specification of robust design and manufacturing processes in order to deliver world-class products (e.g. implementation and leadership of DFMEA process).
  • Ensure up-front quality is built into both the design and supplier manufacturing process through industry standard practices, such as appropriate dimensioning and tolerancing, key product characteristics, process flow diagrams, process control plans, etc.
  • Specific to firmware, oversee the implementation of regression testing and other quality controls to ensure released code is virtually bug-free
  • Enforce quality assurance policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and all applicable standards worldwide.
  • Serve as the primary quality assurance resource for problem identification, resolution, reporting and continuous improvement. Perform root-cause analysis and other problem solving activities to identify effective corrective actions and process improvements.
  • Support engineering / development team efforts by participating in design reviews representing quality assurance and the voice of the customer.
  • In collaboration with Engineering and Procurement, lead quality assurance at our suppliers via monitoring of their manufacturing process as spelled out in developed control plans (material certifications, inspection reports, test reports, supplier visits, etc.)
  • Design, implement and document procedures for process control, process improvement, first articles inspection (FAI), incoming parts inspection and final QC inspection.
  • In collaboration with Customer Service, establish and implement a system for collecting, analyzing and reporting on quality issues affecting our owner’s experience with our vehicles. Review the data with the engineering and operations teams and ensure it is actionable to enable them to make sound product design and supplier related decisions.
  • Monitor supplier performance and establish criteria and rating system for critical suppliers. Interface with supplier and customer quality representatives concerning problems with quality control and assure that effective corrective action is implemented.
  • Implement, improve and maintain quality inspection process of incoming materials (according to agreed-upon sample rate, per part number), including First Article Inspection (FAI), Non-Conforming Material (NCM) reports and metrics
  • Manage the process, control, and security of NCM area (Non-Conforming Material)
  • In collaboration with Production Engineering, implement, improve and maintain quality controls in our production line ( control plans, fixtures and equipment for quality assurance, QC inspect of completed bikes, COP audits, Right-First-Time reports, Concerns Per Hundred and Incidents Per Hundred reports, etc.)
  • In collaboration with Customer Service, interact directly with customers, dealers and distributors to identify opportunities to improve quality and provide feedback to manufacturing and engineering personnel.
  • In partnership with the functional heads across the company create an accountable and quality based culture. Educate and train employees as to their impact in the quality management system.
  • Effectively create and support process enhancement initiatives to maintain an environment of continuous improvement throughout the organization. Provide effective leadership support, training and guidance to all company personnel.
Required Education/Experience:
  • BS or BA degree with 10+ years’ experience in a similar organization with at least five of those years in a senior management role.
  • Must have a demonstrable record of implementing and maintaining a total quality system; laying out a strategic plan and overseeing the tactical implementation, driving improved operational and quality metrics. This person will assure that systems are in place and that inter- and intradepartmental communications are such that “things be done only once – the right way.”

Sr. Mechanical Engineer

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer owns the design and development of assigned electric motorcycle components, systems, and battery architecture, ensuring Zero Motorcycles has best-in-class mechanical design practices for its products, in order to achieve company objectives. Furthermore, this position has the responsibility to co-lead the optimization of systems and processes used in the design function and to mentor Jr. Engineers as well as effectively communicate Engineering content to other company functions. This position is full time and will be working in our Scotts Valley, California headquarters and will report to the Director of Mechanical Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Has a strong voice in the mechanical architecture direction of Zero motorcycles
  • Identifies unique opportunities for Zero Motorcycles to develop, protect, build and maintain competitive advantage
  • Leads mechanical development of battery systems, configurations, mounting, cooling, interconnect, and environmental durability
  • Sets appropriate mechanical design strategies in the creation of assigned motorcycle components
  • Schedules and leads design reviews at strategic points of a product’s development
  • Develops in-house mechanical design excellence within the functional group
  • Develops Engineering design and analysis tools/processes/techniques and has a strong voice in Engineering systems direction
  • Maintains parts’ database through generation of assigned part numbers and descriptions
  • Owns full documentation and revision control of assigned parts, including associated engineering drawings and other documents
  • Generates and tracks to implementation Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
  • Generates and maintains revisions of Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Prepares documents to support regulatory submissions, manufacturing and sales
  • Reviews and approves assembly and service processes associated with assigned parts
  • Leads Engineering response to manufacturing or field issues on assigned parts
  • Leads in root cause analysis of issues with existing product
  • Mentors and trains Jr. Engineers and checks their work
  • Effectively communicates Engineering function to internal and external stakeholders
Required Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; Masters degree a plus
  • Minimum of 7 years engineering experience w/advanced working knowledge of:
    • SolidWorks (advanced surfacing experience a plus) – models and drawings
    • Device types and applications
    • Material applications
    • Manufacturing processes; forging, casting, injection molding, weldments, sheet metal
    • Mechanical Engineering analysis and simulation techniques
    • Electrical component packaging
  • Electric vehicle, Automotive, or motorcycle industry experience a plus
  • Experience with Bills of Materials, Engineering Change Orders, Document Support
  • Electrical Engineering experience, particularly in large format battery design, a plus
  • Motorcycle suspension tuning and design experience a plus

European Marketing Manager

Summary of Position:

Zero Motorcycles is currently looking to fill the position of European Marketing Manager. This position will be responsible for implementing all aspects of Zero Motorcycles corporate marketing and communications strategy in the European market. This includes localization of all collateral, digital platforms, advertising campaigns, sales promotions, dealer POP, demo events, targeted email campaigns and all other aspects of implementing Zero Motorcycles corporate marketing strategy in Europe. A successful candidate will have exceptional communication as well as program management skills and the capacity to understand the interconnectedness of the customer’s experience with the brand at every junction. This position will collaborate heavily with Zero’s corporate marketing team to make sure that all marketing activities meet Zero Motorcycles brand and corporate guidelines, and follow all corporate systems and processes. The scope of the role requires phenomenal problem solving abilities and the desire to take on new challenges with the end goal of helping create a more vibrant and unified brand as measured by continued growth in Zero Motorcycles’ brand awareness and lead generation. This position will work out of our European office and will report to the VP of Global Marketing.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for implementing strategies to ensure that marketing hits web traffic and lead generation growth targets in select European markets.
  • Localization of all content and messaging of Zero Motorcycles corporate positioning and communication campaigns.
  • Write copy for newsletters, email campaigns, websites, brochures and other customer facing materials as required to help foster a more vibrant customer community.
  • Manage all press communications including drafting European targeted press and corporate news releases, interact with journalists and editors, respond to press contacts, help manage the press database, set-up test ride evaluations of Zero products, collate press tests and feedback for product development purposes.
  • Manage all social media activities. Create content for targeted markets. Reach out to customers, media and staff to develop interesting content that generates more interest around the brand.
  • Ensure exceptional messaging across all corporate communications and enforce format/style consistency.
  • Oversee the development of innovative advertising and marketing campaigns to drive more floor traffic to dealer showrooms. Work with corporate digital marketing team to develop PPC campaigns, meta-tags and key words relevant to target markets.
  • Develop and write new sections of the website.
  • Oversee the communications elements of UI projects involving the internet and web applications.
  • Develop and enforce the brand guidelines alongside the design team.
  • Work with members of the global marketing team to help ensure that corporate messaging is communicated consistently and that localization is effectively implemented.
  • Work alongside the Sales and Promotions teams to develop all components necessary to ensure that demo event promotions are communicated effectively from start to finish.
  • Ensure compliance with all European privacy laws.
Required Education/Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing communications and copy writing functions.
  • International marketing experience.
Skills and Attributes:
  • Excellent copy writing skills.
  • Multi-lingual in German and French.
  • Technical skills and abilities commensurate with Zero product line technology.
  • Close attention to detail.
