City / Suburban Riding: 30-40 Mile Range
Riders in cities or suburban areas can expect to achieve an average range of around 30 – 40 miles. The test shown on this page is of a rider who starts in a suburban area who rides on city streets to the heart of downtown San Jose and then back again. The rider encounters traffic, is sometimes cruising at sustained speeds of around 35-40 mph and experiences changes in elevation. After a 33 mile route, the rider returns to his neighborhood where he actually drains the pack to empty after 41.4 miles. During the final miles the rider is rapidly accelerating and decelerating while weaving through city blocks.
